What is DF#A?

The Dulcimer Folk Association of Connecticut, also known as DF#A, is a group of folk musicians largely from Connecticut, with representation from Massachusetts and New York. We gather once a month in Farmington at The Farmington Inn (see directions below) for informal music-making, playing traditional songs from early days in America and Europe, as well as contemporary folk songs. Mountain and hammered dulcimers are the most common instruments played, although many other instruments also join in, including autoharp, bamboo pipe, flute, guitar, mandolin, psaltery, recorders.

The Dulcimer Folk Association meets the first Saturday of the month 2-5 p.m. Skill levels range from rank beginners to classically-trained teachers. Come join us.

Our Gatherings are for the purpose of enjoying making of music, learning new songs and enhancing dulcimer skills. One or two new songs a month are published in the Newsletter and are played at Gatherings. Each spring we have an Annual Church Coffeehouse Concert where members are able to play a song or two in a non-threatening environment. All members are encouraged to participate.

DF#A has over 140 members, representing 23 different states. One half of the members come from Connecticut. Members receive a monthly newsletter, which includes news from local and not so local events, music written in standard notation as well as mountain dulcimer tab, sometimes a “You Went Where?” column, articles about gardening, nature, weather, and usually a recipe of the month.

A smaller group also meets two weeks later on the third Friday at 7:30 pm at Don's house in Simsbury. You can contact Don Moore at 860-242-3003 for information on membership and gatherings. Send your snail-mail address to Donsawmill@AOL.COM for a sample of the Newsletter.
